Breakthrough Technique and Process for Identifying Homes Needing Weatherization

RecoverIR, Inc. (RecoverIR™) announces the launch of its Targeted Weatherization Inefficiencies Survey (TWIS) Program, to help utilities, cities, counties, states, and the federal government most economically identify which houses, especially in disadvantaged areas, have the greatest need for weatherization and energy efficiency improvements.

RecoverIR™ founder and President, Greg Stockton announced that RecoverIR’s new TWIS Program should reduce the cost of identifying the most inefficient homes needing weatherization improvements by $200-$400 per residence and allow precious government funding to be focused on those homes where the net improvement in energy efficiency will be the greatest.

While the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) has clearly stated, “The single most important metric is the number of homes weatherized, and reflects data collected from the states.” and “Weatherization Assistance Program is to reduce the burden of energy prices on the disadvantaged. http://apps1.eere.energy.gov/weatherization/prog_goals.cfm”, RecoverIR has developed proprietary special analyses which use aerial IR imagery, along with demographic data and utility records to accurately identify those homes needing weatherization the most. The company is working on ways to correlate on-ground, in-house survey data and is trying to find partners to perfect and validate the technique.

Greg Stockton said, “Many states are sending out legions of weatherization inspectors which cost $500 to $1500 per home for the inspections with varying findings, and before RecoverIR’s TWIS Program there was no way to accurately and inexpensively measure the DOE’s metric, of how many homes were weatherized.”

Greg said, “Our new TWIS Program fits very well with many of the DOE’s and President Obama’s initiatives to improve energy efficiency. Once we have identified the best homes to improve (or at least a group of home that are more likely to have weatherization issues), many new jobs will be created to make the necessary improvements from our targeted information and results.”

RecoverIR is prepared to fly over dangerous and disadvantaged neighborhoods before and after weatherization efforts to provide the necessary measurements of success, especially for the most energy inefficient homes.

Utilities, cities, counties, states, and the federal government, should realize savings of $200-$400 per home and be able to redeploy these savings to actually helping selected landlords or home owners make their homes more energy efficient.

As the number of vicious dogs and guns increases, RecoverIR’s large area (100,000’s acre) aerial infrared surveys have now become the only safe and reliable way to accurately identify energy inefficient homes.
